Welcome to the Colonel Matthew Singleton Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution website.

The Sons of the American Revolution (the "SAR") is a patriotic, historical and educational lineage society. The National Society was founded on April 30, 1889 and chartered by an Act of Congress on June 6, 1906.  Societies exist in all fifty states and very likely a chapter can be found near you. We are non political and non sectarian. We are a society of gentlemen who enjoy the fellowship of a common interest and who want to preserve the memory of our Patriot Ancestors and keep the freedoms that they won for us with their service and sacrifices.

Our activities may include grave markings of patriot ancestors, displaying our flag, remembering American holidays such as Washington’s Birthday, July 4th, Flag Day, Constitution Day and Patriots Day, laying wreaths, sponsoring youth contests and programs that relate to the Revolutionary War history, recognizing members of the community, government and our uniformed services for exceptional or patriotic service and encouraging the preservation of Revolutionary War history.

How to Join Us

Proving that you have a Patriot Ancestor can be challenging but it is far from impossible and, once it is proven, it is good for generations to that follow you. Perhaps you discover a family story that places an ancestor in the fighting during Revolutionary War or demonstrates they directly supported the cause in another way. The ancestor need not have your last name and can be on either your maternal or paternal side, but you must document the direct line. The Patriot Ancestor can be male or female.  If you have a possible ancestor, that's a good starting point. Click on the Find Your Ancestor button and that can be your first step discovering your family history and joining us.

Patriot Ancestors

Members past and present have traced their family lineage directly to one or more of these patriots from the American Revolution.  It matters not if they took up arms for the cause or they provided support or service in another matter; they all risked their life, liberty, and fortune for right to self rule and have a government of the people instead of a monarch or dictator.

Given that each man or woman has over 1,000 ancestors of age to be active in the time of the Revolutionary War, it not too far fetched to find one or more patriot ancestors.  There were women patriots as well as men supporting the cause and each of them deserves to be remembered.
